The 'Emeraude' is a modern whitefish trawler built in Norway and owned by P&P and the Icelandic company Samherji. This vessel operates in northern waters, catching roundfish species like cod and redfish. Afak was responsible for the design and implementation of the wet section of the fish processing plant, while suppliers from Iceland and Norway managed the filleting, portioning, and packaging processes.
The process
After the fish are caught, they are stored in refrigerated RSW tanks below deck. As demand arises, these tanks are emptied, and the fish undergo processing, which includes deheading, sorting, bleeding, buffering, and filleting. The fillets are then neatly packed into trays for freezing.
Coordination and commissioning
Afak played a key role in the design process, working closely with the other suppliers. We coordinated the various processes and provided the customer with a complete overview of the project, helping them make informed decisions.
Once the ship was completed and ready for its inaugural voyage, one of our technicians supervised the journey. They made the necessary adjustments to the system and instructed the French crew on how to operate the factory effectively.
